The NPPA has revised/ fixed the prices of 87 formulation packs on 27th May, 2003. While in case of 82 packs prices have been revised downwards due to reduction in price of scheduled bulk drugs, in 2 packs, price have been increased. Prices have been fixed for the first time for rest 3 packs. Out of 87 formulation packs, ceiling prices have been fixed in respect of 60 packs. The formulations for which ceiling prices have been fixed/ revised include products based on bulk drugs like Cefazolin, Chlorpromazine, Dexamethasone, Gentamycin Sulphate, Levadopa & Carbidopa, Streptomycin & Penicillin, Sulphadoxine & Pyramethamine, Oxytetracycline and Tetracycline etc. These formulations are used in various treatments/ diseases like broad spectrum anti-biotic, anxiety disorders, allergic reactions, burns, urinary tract infections, parkinson disease, streptococcal, pneumococcal infections, malaria and mixed bacterial infections etc.
The prices have been fixed/ revised in accordance with the provisions of the DPCO, 1995. The prices fixed/revised would become effective within 15 days and the manufacturers/ importers are required to issue the revised price list in Form-V to NPPA.
