Explanatory Note

Subject: Fixation/Revision of prices of bulk drugs Vitamin C (Plain), Vitamin C (Coated), Sodium Ascorbate and Iodochlorohydroxyquinoline (ICHQ) under DPCO, 1995.

NPPA has revised the price of bulk drugs Vitamin C (Plain), Vitamin C (Coated), Sodium Ascorbate and ICHQ from Rs. 526/Kg. to Rs. 423/Kg., Rs. 526/kg. to 419/Kg., Rs. 592/kg. to 466/Kg. and Rs. 740/Kg. to Rs. 764/Kg. respectively vide notification in the Gazette of India Extraordinary No. S.O. 944 (E) and S.O. 945 (E) dated 6th September, 2002. The prices have been revised under the provisions of DPCO, 1995 after conducting the detailed cost price studies in respect of these drugs. The major manufacturer of Vitamin C is M/s Ambalal Sarabhai Enterprises and for ICHQ M/s Atul Ltd. and M/s East India Pharmaceuticals are the two major manufacturers in the country. A copy of the notification issued in this regard is enclosed. The notification is also available on the NPPA website www.nppaindia.nic.in

The revised notified price shall become effective within 15 days from the date of notification in the Official Gazette. All the manufacturers of the formulations utilizing the drug in their scheduled formulations are advised to follow the provisions of DPCO, 1995 with regard to pricing of the derivative formulations.
