The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority has revised/fixed the prices of 81 formulation packs on December 19, 2001. Ceiling prices have been fixed for some commonly used Scheduled formulations for the first time. The prices of 76 packs were revised on a suo-muto basis as the manufacturers, though required to apply for price revision, did not do so. The formulations for which ceiling prices have been fixed include products based on bulk drugs like Metronidazole Benzoate, Tetracycline, Penicillin-G Potassium, Phenoxy Methyl Penicillin, Vitamin A, Vitamin E (natural) etc. The formulations are used in various treatments/ diseases like diarrhoea, anti-biotics, blindness, anti-oxidant etc. The prices fixed/revised would become effective within 15 days and the manufacturers/importers are required to issue the revised price list to NPPA, State Drugs Controllers, Distributors etc.
