Explanatory Note
The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority has revised/fixed the prices of 44 formulation packs on June 18, 1999. The prices have been fixed for the first time in the case of 3 packs. In the case of 14 formulation packs prices have been revised upwards and the increase ranges between 3.50% to 9.60%, except in one case where the annualised increase is 50%. In the case of 26 formulation packs, the prices have been revised downwards and the decrease ranges between 4.58% to 50.71%. There has been no change in the price in respect of 1 pack of formulation. Of the 44 formulation packs, ceiling prices have been fixed in respect of 2 packs while non-ceiling prices have been fixed in respect of the remaining 42 packs. The prices have been fixed/revised in accordance with the provision of the DPCO, 1995 and as per the established criteria and guidelines. A copy of the statement showing the existing and revised prices is enclosed herewith.
The formulations for which prices have been revised/fixed consist a range of Deriphyllin formulation used for control/treatment of Asthama, Levodopa Tablets for Anti-Parkinson disease, Rubraplex Liquid and Lederplex T Liquid used for Vitamin deficiency, Ledermycin Tablet/Capsules used as broad spectrum antibiotics and formulations based on Griseofulvin such as Dermonorm, Dermofulvin, Fungal, Fungivin, Gris OD, Grisomed, Grisoral, Griseoderm Fulvin, Fulvin-M, Walavin etc. used as anti fungal drugs.
The prices fixed/revised would become effective within 15 days from the date of notification in the official gazette or the receipt of the order of the NPPA in this behalf, as per Para 14(1) of DPCO, 1995. Necessary revised price list is also to be issued by the manufacturers/importers required under sub paragraph (3) of paragraph 14 of the DPCO, 1995. Accordingly as per the provision, the revised price list in Form-V of the DPCO is to be furnished by the concerned manufacturer to the government and NPPA, State Drug Control Authorities and distributors, wholesaler and retailers or any other agent. The manufacturers are also required to work out the prices of different pack sizes as the case may be in terms of S.O. No. 83 (E) dated 27.01.98.
