Explanatory Note

Subject: Fixation/Revision of prices of bulk drugs Phenyl Butazone, Aspirin and Ibuprofen under DPCO, 1995.

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has fixed / revised the prices of bulk drugs Phenyl Butazone, Aspirin and Ibuprofen. The notified price of bulk drug Phenyl Butazone has been revised downwards from Rs.478/kg. to Rs.352/kg. The prices of bulk drugs Aspirin and Ibuprofen have been fixed / revised based on requests of the manufacturers to revise the price based on increase in input costs viz. raw material cost. Price of bulk drug Aspirin has been revised upwards from Rs.119/kg. to Rs.134/kg. and Ibuprofen from Rs.376/kg. to Rs.384/kg. These prices were fixed /revised vide notification in the Gazette of India Extraordinary S.O No. 1133(E) to 1135(E) dated 15th October, 2004. Copies of the notifications issued in this regard are enclosed. The notifications are also available on the NPPA website www.nppaindia.nic.in.

The revised notified prices shall become effective within 15 days from the date of notification in the Official Gazette. All the manufacturers of the formulations utilizing the drug in their scheduled formulations are advised to follow the provisions of DPCO, 1995 with regard to pricing of the derivative formulations.
