Explanatory Note
The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority has revised/fixed the prices of 33 formulation packs on April 13, 1999. The prices have been fixed for the first time in the case of 4 packs. In the case of 20 formulation packs prices have been revised and the annualised increase ranges between 1.88% and 18.76%. In the case of 3 formulations packs, the prices have been revised downwards and the decrease ranges between 13.67% and 50.03%. There has been no change in the prices in respect of 6 packs, which are imported finished formulations. Of the 33 formulation packs, ceiling prices have been fixed in respect of 11 packs while non-ceiling prices have been fixed in respect of the remaining 22 packs. The prices have been fixed/revised in accordance with the provision of the DPCO, 1995 and as per the established criteria and guidelines. A copy of the statement showing the existing and revised prices is enclosed herewith.
The formulations for which prices have been revised/fixed consist of Insulins used for control/treatment of diabetes, Madopar Tablets for Anti-Parkinson disease, Mycodot’s Kits for T.B., Erythromycin Tablet/Suspension used as broad spectrum antibiotics, Betnovate for skin disease; Cinkara Syrup, Becosule Cap and Zevit Cap used in Vitamin deficiency; Novalgin used for fever and pain and Dettol used as disinfectant and antiseptic.
The prices fixed/revised would become effective within 15 days from the date of notification in the official gazette or the receipt of the order of the NPPA in this behalf, as per Para 14(1) of DPCO, 1995. Necessary revised price list is also to be issued by the manufacturers/importers required under sub paragraph (3) of paragraph 14 of the DPCO, 1995. Accordingly to the provision, the revised price list in Form-V of the DPCO is to be furnished by the concerned manufacturer to the government and NPPA, State Drug Control Authorities and distributors, wholesaler and retailers or any other agent. The manufacturers are also required to work out the prices of different pack sizes as the case may be in terms of S.O. No. 83 (E) dated 27.01.98.
