Explanatory Note

Subject: Fixation/Revision of prices of bulk drug Pentazocine under DPCO, 1995.

NPPA has revised the price of bulk drug Pentazocine from Rs.38,498/Kg. to Rs.35,512/Kg. vide notification in the Gazette of India Extraordinary No. S.O. 1348 (E) dated 23rd December, 2002. The price has been revised under the provisions of DPCO, 1995 after conducting the detailed cost price study in respect the drug. The major manufacturers of Pentazocine are M/s. Ranbaxy Labs. Ltd. and M/s. Ind-Swift Labs. Ltd. the two major manufacturers in the country. A copy of the notification issued in this regard is enclosed. The notification is also available on the NPPA website www.nppaindia.nic.in.

The revised notified price shall become effective within 15 days from the date of notification in the Official Gazette. All the manufacturers of the formulations utilizing the drug in their scheduled formulations are advised to follow the provisions of DPCO, 1995 with regard to pricing of the derivative formulations.
