Explanatory Note

Subject: Fixation/Revision of prices of bulk drugs Betamethasone & its derivatives & Ibuprofen under DPCO, 1995.

NPPA has revised the prices of bulk drugs Betamethasone & its derivatives and Ibuprofen. These prices have been revised from Rs.224/ gm to Rs.230/gm for Betamethasone Alcohol, from Rs.212/gm to Rs.219/gm for Betamethasone Valerate, from Rs.185/gm to Rs.183/gm for Betamethasone Sodium Phosphate and from Rs.346/kg to Rs.391kg. for Ibuprofen vide notification in the Gazette of India Extraordinary No. S.O.848(E) and 849(E) dated 25.07.2003.These prices have been revised under the provisions of DPCO, 1995 after conducting the detailed cost price study of M/s GlaxoSmithkline for Betamethasone & its derivatives producing the drug from basic stage in the country and M/s Shasun and M/s Dr. Reddy’s Labs. for Ibuprofen. A copy of the notification issued in this regard is enclosed. The notification is also available on the NPPA website www.nppaindia.nic.in.

The revised notified prices shall become effective within 15 days from the date of notification in the Official Gazette. All the manufacturers of the formulations utilizing the drug in their scheduled formulations are advised to follow the provisions of DPCO, 1995 with regard to pricing of the derivative formulations.
