Explanatory Note

Subject: Fixation/Revision of prices of bulk drug Rifampicin under DPCO, 1995.

NPPA has revised the price of bulk drug Rifampicin from Rs. 4167/Kg. to Rs. 4200/Kg. vide notification in the Gazette of India Extraordinary No. S.O. 159 (E) dated 5th , February, 2002. The price has been revised under the provisions of DPCO, 1995 after taking into consideration the information / data provided by the three basic manufacturers of Rifampicin namely M/s Gujarat Themis Biosyn. Ltd., M/s Lupin Ltd. and M/s Novartis India Limited. A copy of the notification issued in this regard is enclosed. The notification is also available on the NPPA website www.nppaindia.nic.in.

The revised notified price shall become effective within 15 days from the date of notification in the Official Gazette. All the manufacturers of the formulations utilizing the drug in their scheduled formulations are advised to follow the provisions of DPCO, 1995 with regard to pricing of the derivative formulations.
