RECENT DEVELOPMENTS
- Website Redesigning – NPPA has undertaken the work of redesigning its existing website to make it more user friendly, provide more information on Pharma Policy, Drug Pricing availabilities and related issues, working of NPPA and hyper linkage with websites of State Drug Controllers.
- Computerization – In order to strengthen and streamline the working of NPPA, computerization has been initiated with the help of NIC including networking with other functionaries.
- Online Facilities – NPPA with the help of NIC has initiated online filing by manufacturers of applications for fixation / Revision of formulation prices in form III / form IV of DPCO’95 and also online submission of price list in form V to NPPA.
- Consumer Awareness – To create consumer awareness through advertisement in leading newspapers (English and Hindi) coverage through television and dissemination of information through website. Since April,2007 a 30 seconds awareness advertisement at prime time at around 8:15 pm between English & Hindi news is being telecast on the National Network of Doordarshan for this purpose.
- Publicity – In addition advertisements are issued in leading newspapers such as regarding MRP ( Inclusive of all Taxes) to create awareness among people.
- Interaction with State Authorities – NPPA is holding regular Regional meetings with the Health Secretaries and State Drug Controllers. Meeting for the North Eastern Region was held on 7th September,2006 in Guwahati and another meeting for Northern Region on 8th November,2006 in New Delhi. Regional meetings are being convened for other regions as well.
- Grievance Redressal Cell – NPPA has recently set up a Grievance redressal cell with a senior officer of the NPPA to hear grievances from the general public at the NPPA office on first Tuesday of every month between 11 am to 12 noon. The complaints can also be sent through Email/ mail . For this purpose NPPA has prepared proforma for making complaint and the same is available on the website of NPPA – https://www.nppaindia.nic.in/en/

- Revision of Monitoring Parameter – NPPA has recently revised the limit of price increase in respect of non-scheduled formulations from the earlier level of 20% to 10% per annum. Steps have also been taken to initiate action under para 10(b) of DPCO, 1995 in line with the monitoring parameters. Notices have been issued for more than 225 formulation packs which are being pursued as per the provisions of DPCO,1995.
- Reduction of prices of Non Scheduled Packs – With the intervention of NPPA prices of non-scheduled formulations in respect of 46 formulation packs has been brought down in recent times by manufacturers.
- Compendium on prices – In English and are available on our website.
- Price fixation of Scheduled Bulk Drugs & Formulation Packs – During the year 2006-07, the prices of 51 bulk drugs and 1020 formulation packs have been fixed by NPPA which includes 522 formulation packs whose prices have been fixed for the first time.
- Overcharging – NPPA has issued demand notices for overcharging amounting to Rs. 1409.81 crores ( includes interest) upto 30th April,2007 as per the provisions of DPCO,1995
